CM Naidu promises to complete Polavaram P-1 by March 2027

Polavaram: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, while coming down heavily on the estwhile YSRCP Government for neglecting the Polavaram Multipurpose Irrigation Project, on Wednesday promised to complete the first phase works by March, 2027.
Stating that the project's commissioning will be a lifeline for many areas in Andhra Pradesh, Naidu after a visit of the project site and a review with top officials, told the media here that the previous regime totally neglected the project leading to its delay and cost escalation.
He said their target is to complete the project by December, 2027, he has directed the officials to make it ready by March next year in larger public interest. He said their effort is to dedicate the project to the nation as soon as possible.
This was his first visit to the Polavaram after a new district was carved out from Eluru district with the headquarters at Rampachodavaram.
He said Polavaram is crucial for Andhra Pradesh for putting an end to irrigation and drinking requirements of the people.
The Chief Minister underlined the need for linking of rivers in the country to make it a drought-free India. He said that during Vajpayee's regime, a task force was formed to study on that with the intra-linking of rivers the State would have become drought free.
He said the TDP Government had sepnt Rs65,000 crore during 2014-19 towards development of irrigation sector including Rs12,000 crore in Rayalaseema region itself.
